Subversion (SVN) clients reviews
7 January 2010 - Filed under reviews
I really like the topic of Version Control Systems. At first sight, it looks simple and easy. But, once you start to search more about it, you discover a whole new world. There are so many solutions available, each with their pros and cons. It is also a topic with frequent flame wars, either about which tool to use or about how to use it. But fear not, as I’m not going into that debate.
Instead, I will complement my CVS clients reviews series with a new Subversion (SVN) clients reviews series. The candidates are :
- RapidSVN
- Synchro SVN
- CollabNet’s Subversion Client
- KDESvn
- eSvn
- SmartSVN
- QSvn
- subcommander
- pysvn
- Cascade
- KSvn
- Qct
- RabbitVCS
- TkSVN
- SubdiverSVN
- git-svn
I know, it’s a long list. So don’t except to have this series completed next week
In the mean time, if you’re looking for more information about Subversion, here are some books that may be usefull :
- Practical Subversion
- Pragmatic Version Control: Using Subversion
- Subversion Version Control
- Managing Software Development with Trac and Subversion
- Subversion 1.6 Official Guide
- Version Control with Subversion
- Version Control with Subversion (yes, it’s a different one!)
- Subversion in Action
Also, if you know of any other Linux SVN client, I would be more than happy to review them. Just leave a comment or send me an e-mail (see About Me) and I’ll add it to this list.
